As economic growth and increasing tourism brings more and more people to Music City, systems all across the Nashville International Airport have been renovated and upgraded to accommodate the growing airport foot traffic. With more passengers comes increasing luggage, so in 2009, MNAA sought to upgrade the Baggage Handling System to increase capacity. TMP provided design direction for the complete replacement of the in-bound baggage system including new, expanded conveyors and updated finishes, completed in a tight 280-day construction schedule. Construction phasing and signage were critical to maintaining passenger flow, as the Baggage Claim level had to remain functioning during the renovation.
The new system provides increased processing speed and allows for sortation by Baggage Source Message. Additionally, the project included expansion of the baggage make-up rooms, relocation of the TSA On Screen Resolution area and Control Room.
