The Design Solution
As many rehabilitation patients require longer stays, the unit was purposefully located on the second floor to provide peaceful views of the surrounding live oak canopy. TMP strategically incorporated the mature greenery into the design with details like ribbon windows in the patient dining/day room and private patient rooms facing the trees for a calming atmosphere.
Interior elements including color palette and material choices were paramount to create a cheerful, positive environment. The design intentionally emphasized flowing, curved ceiling elements and flooring patterns, subtly influencing patients’ movement during the recovery process.
The new tower sits over the existing Pediatric Emergency entrance, so it was important to give special attention to the drop-off area, making sure it was well-lit and accessible for young patients and families.
