MaryLou Apple Science, Technology, and Allied Health Building

The Challenge
The administration’s goal was to transform the “strip mall” appearance of the current academic building and parking lot into a pedestrian-friendly campus, much like that found on traditional four-year college campus settings.

The Design Solution
The facility includes six standard classrooms, two distance-learning classrooms, three computer labs, teaching labs and support spaces, and a clinical nursing training lab. There are also 20 faculty offices and several student collaborative spaces.
Parking spaces located closest to the existing building were replaced with green space and a new central lawn, or "campus green," which was to be the focus of this building and future buildings.
Parking areas were kept along the perimeter of the campus and are now screened by trees and low planting to maximize the separation of pedestrican and vehicular traffic both physically and visually.

The Design Impact
The new building fits harmoniously with existing facilites on campus to elevate Motlow's campus identity. Nursing program students and staff now have a place for best-in-class learning and collaboration.
