Nashville International Airport (BNA)

The Challenge
As Nashville’s popularity has grown over the last several decades, Nashville International Airport (BNA) implemented BNA Vision, a plan to create a world-class airport for a world-class city. TMP has partnered with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) since 1998 as a trusted designer and is highly engaged in several aspects of the BNA Vision plan, including the Terminal Lobby Renovation and new state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility, Concourse B and C restroom upgrades, and Concourse B and C Flooring, Finish, and Elevator Upgrades projects.
Ensuring travelers continued to have an excellent experience throughout design and construction was of utmost importance and a major challenge to overcome. TMP completed the Enabling Project, which preceded the BNA Vision projects by outlining temporary partition locations and identifying the various construction phases to allow full airport operations with minimal impact on the overall passenger experience.

The Design Solution
The Terminal Lobby Renovation and International Arrivals Facility Addition consisted of a new pedestrian bridge, new central security checkpoint, a new vertical circulation core of escalators and elevators, expanded ground transportation, and a new marketplace and International Arrivals Facility.
Signage was critical to make wayfinding easier for travelers during the renovation. The new facility offers six new gates for international/domestic use, and 15 new dining, retail, and service amenities. TMP completed the project in partnership with Fentress Architects in 2024.
The upgrades to Concourse B and C were necessary to bring the existing airport up to meet the new finish standard set by BNA Vision, including new flooring, restrooms, and updated finishes along the concourses. Old carpeting was removed and replaced with a statement terrazzo ribbon floor that weaves throughout the entire airport. TMP redesigned the restrooms in the Concourse to adhere to the new BNA finish standards and give an updated aesthetic that enhanced the use and wayfinding for travelers. Elevators were replaced and additional work included new ceilings, column covers, lighting, and more.
