The Design Solution
TMP renovated an existing Cancer Center that was built in 1996 but never used. The client’s goals centered around quality patient care and stewardship of resources with a focus on cutting-edge technology.
The hospital purchased a Varian ETHOS Linear Accelerator which uses key analytics to target patient treatments. The installation was the third of its kind in the U.S. and the 10th in the world. TMP repurposed the existing 24-year-old vault to house the system and modified a space for high-dose radiation treatments.
Throughout the design process, TMP worked closely with Vanderbilt leadership and caregivers. The design originally exceeded the available square footage, but TMP helped identify critical program components and provide outside-the-box solutions to prioritize patient and caregiver needs.

The Design Impact
Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital gained a thoughtful, useful space to provide much-needed oncology services to the community.
