Brentwood Fire Station 5

The Challenge
The City of Brentwood and Brentwood Fire and Rescue needed a new fire station serving the southeast Brentwood community. Efficiency was key to the design to help reduce response time for emergencies. The site proved to be a challenge, as it was narrow with a change of more than 40 feet in elevation.

The Design Solution
TMP’s solution was to move the residential portion of the fire station to the second floor and install a fire pole. This allowed firefighters to respond faster to emergencies and narrowed the station’s footprint on the site.
The two-bay, two-story facility accommodates four personnel in private bunk rooms and two additional surge personnel with murphy beds. It includes a training room, kitchen, day room, physical agility room, and support spaces.
Located in a more affluent, residential neighborhood, the station’s exterior design reflects the surrounding landscape. The front entry features a two-story tower with fire hoses hung from the ceiling as both a design feature and a nod to the historic hose-drying towers of the past. Red front bi-folding bay doors give a classic fire station feel while simultaneously providing function and efficiency.

The Design Impact
It was important to the client that the building represents the community it serves and is something they can be proud of. An inviting front porch, public restroom, and drinking fountain were added to the front of the station for walkers on a nearby public path.
