The Challenge

LewisGale Health’s flagship facility contained a cramped, underused nursery and Women’s Care support space. The facility wanted to retain the prime real estate and needed to figure out how to reinvent the space for efficiency and growth.

The Design Solution

More than 13 years in the making, TMP worked closely with LewisGale hospital staff to design a state-of-the-art, modern Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, establishing a brand-new service line for the hospital.

The space features six neonatal patient care stations with space to expand, a central nurse’s station, private lactation rooms and areas for bonding, and updated, refreshed interiors with both natural and artificial skylights.

The Design Impact

The newly opened space supported the desired workflow, providing better visibility of patients and easier wayfinding and access for nurses. Before the renovation, the space was closed off and separated. By using virtual mockups and live models, TMP worked directly with nurses and caregivers on important details such as the location of services in each patient care area.
The final outcome was an immense upgrade and benefit for the hospital, staff, and patients.
