- Separate adult and pediatric waiting, triage, and exam rooms to help with wayfinding

The Design Solution
TMP designed the new emergency department with a single entrance and drop-off, eliminating the previous entry confusion. Once inside, adult and pediatric patients are separated into different waiting, triage, and exam rooms.
Pediatric patients have a suite of seven exam rooms and a major room monitored by one nurse station, while low-acuity adult patients are treated in new conveyance bays. The bays and four added exam rooms surround a central support space.
New stair and elevator towers lead up to the helipad on the roof, and the renovation added three dedicated behavioral health rooms, two trauma rooms, relocated exam rooms and an emergency department CT.
The Design Impact
Patients at Memorial Hospital can experience easier, faster, and more comprehensive care thanks to an updated emergency department with improved wayfinding and separated adult and pediatric units.
