Piedmont Cartersville Vertical Expansion

Piedmont Cartersville Vertical Expansion

The Challenge

To help alleviate overcrowding and add more bed capacity, TMP worked with Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center to design a two-story vertical expansion onto the existing hospital.

  • Client

    Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center

  • Location

    Cartersville, Georgia

  • Size

    31,798 square feet

  • Distinguishing Features

    • New stair tower is focal point, making Cartersville Medical Center one of the tallest buildings in the city

The Design Solution

Building on our strong relationship with Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, TMP completed the design for a 14,970-square-foot vertical patient tower expansion and the renovation of the sterile processing department, bringing the total square footage to 31,798.

Keeping the future in mind, the fourth-floor vertical expansion is shell space with room for additional buildouts, while the fifth floor brings 20 new patient beds to the hospital for a total of 139 licensed beds — providing expanded care for the Cartersville community. The team worked directly with the facility to be mindful of the budget while still providing a fresh, modern space that marries with the existing hospital.

The Design Impact

The expansion space was designed to be thoroughly functional and thoughtful, with an eye to the future. All rooms in the new tower can supplement with virtual nursing stations — not to take away from bedside care but expand it.
