Nolensville Fire Station 1

The Challenge
The Town of Nolensville and Nolensville Fire Department previously used a Williamson County facility to house its volunteer fire department. TMP designed Nolensville’s first municipal fire station featuring full-time staff with volunteer and part-time support.

The Design Solution
The community-centered building features four bays, 10 private bunk rooms, a 24-person training room doubling as a bunk room for surge personnel, kitchen, day room, physical agility room, and support spaces. The entry tower, which is a nod to the hose-drying towers of the past, glows at night, showcasing the 24-hour facility as a beacon of community service.
The design team worked diligently to meet the client’s goal of creating a welcoming, cozy environment while using the best materials, layout, and wayfinding to make the job of firefighters as easy and efficient as possible. Branding and historical detail were important to the client. Additionally, materials were chosen for specific purposes: specialized epoxy flooring was used in the apparatus bays to withstand the abuse of the trucks and the yellow striping on the floors of the bays was intentional to provide the trucks easy access through the bi-fold doors. Durable, acoustic panels were used throughout the station to help mitigate noise for the building occupants and surrounding community. Firefighters maintain the building themselves, so materials such as water-resistant flooring were used in common areas and bunks to help with easy cleaning.
