University of Louisville Health Medical Center South Tower Expansion

The Challenge
Bullitt County in Kentucky lacked an inpatient hospital, requiring residents to drive half an hour to Louisville for care. The vertical expansion and renovation at the University of Louisville (UofL) Health Medical Center South transformed the existing outpatient hospital into an inpatient facility for much-needed services.

The Design Solution

The vertical expansion was completed over an occupied hospital and designed around significant structural elements of the existing space that needed to stay.
