HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital – Rehabilitation Patient Tower

Located in the rapidly growing community of Hudson, Florida, HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital provided the community with a new patient tower and expanded services. The tower includes a first-floor inpatient rehabilitation unit, Intensive and Progressive care units on the second floor, and a medical/surgical unit on the third floor with vertical expansion capabilities of two more floors.

This project created a new main entrance to the hospital opening to a four-story lobby. Wrapped in an aluminum curtain wall, affectionately called the “Jewel Box” due to its reflective and jewel-like quality, the new lobby offers natural light, exterior views, and visual prominence. The main lobby provides a welcoming hotel-like experience for visitors and patients to the rehabilitation unit, as well as connecting to the rest of the hospital on all floors. The “Jewel Box” incorporates modern design elements, provides a hinge between the existing hospital and new tower, and creates a strong connection to the outdoors.

A new courtyard further connects the hospital to the outdoors. Strategically placed between the tower and the existing hospital, the courtyard facilitates movement for the rehabilitation patients, both inside and outside the building. Patients, visitors, and staff can enjoy this space, as well as other outdoor patios located off the dining areas and gym.

The overall interior design creates a welcoming atmosphere and healing environment utilizing soft colors. Windows along corridors, gym, and other spaces provide ample natural light. Large-scale art applied to the walls provides visual points of interest, enhancing the welcoming and hospitality feel.
