Brandon Hospital Rehabilitation Patient Tower
HCA Florida Brandon Hospital – New Patient Tower

The new patient tower at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital focused on establishing a 24-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit catering to patients recovering from surgeries and traumas with emphasis on the relearning of independent movement.

As many rehabilitation patients require longer stays, the rehabilitation unit was purposefully located on the second floor to provide peaceful views of the surrounding canopy of live oaks. The design strategically incorporates this existing mature greenery, specifically preserving the large live oak trees already onsite. The ribbon windows of the patient dining/dayroom and private patient rooms frame these trees, integrating them into the design and providing a view of nature, as well as natural light to create a bright and inviting atmosphere for the patients.

The choice of bright and colorful materials for the interior creates a cheerful, positive environment. The interior design intentionally emphasized flowing, curved ceiling elements, and flooring patterns, subtly influencing patients’ movement during their recovery process.

The vertical expansion extends over the existing Pediatric Emergency entrance. Special attention was given to the pediatric drop-off area, ensuring it was brightly illuminated at night and featured light colors. This meticulous attention to detail aimed to create an approachable environment for young patients and their families.

As a dynamic element, external color-changing LED lighting fixtures add movement and a playful, vibrant aesthetic appeal to the pediatric entrance as well as providing a directional marker. The overall design creates a welcoming, positive atmosphere for both patients and visitors.
